Irish short musical ‘The Man in 301’, directed by David Freyne, is set to screen at the 37th International Film Festival, Rotterdam, which takes place from January 23rd-February 3rd 2008.
The short, produced by David Freyne, Rachael O’Kane and Rory Dungan, features music by group ‘Patrick Freyne and His Bad Intentions’. It was shot by DOP Arthur Mulhern on 16mm over three days in Mountjoy Prison, with funding through the Kildare County Council Arts Grant.
The Rotterdam screening will be the International Premiere for ‘The Man in 301’. The film is a horror-fairytale, in which three prisoners in each of their cells recounts the story of their crimes in song, with each blaming their excesses on an accomplice, the man in 301. The short features singers/actors Kevin Connelly, Mick Fitzgerald (The Ten Steps, How Harry Became a Tree), Tim Landers and Paul Nolan.
Production designer on the short was Claire McGuiness, with sound mixer Philip Grier and gaffer Gavin O’Reilly. The camera equipment was provided by the FÁS Media Centre, and lighting by Filmbase and Destudio. Editing is currently being completed by Alan Freir.
