The programme for the inaugural Navan Film Festival has been announced. The festival opens on the 8th of August, beginning three days of feature films, shorts and animation from Irish and International filmmakers.

The Navan Film Festival will open with a screening of three short films from young filmmaker Nathan Lavine Heaney, including the world premiere of his short film ‘ Mister Doyle’. The young American director resides in Dublin and is being touted as a wonderful find by festival organisers.
The festival will close on the 10th of August with the screening of independent feature film ‘Strike The Tent’, an epic love story set in the American Civil War. The film is co-directed by by A. Blaine Miller and Julian Adams. Adams, who was also the film’s writer and lead actor, will attend the screening and will participate in a Q&A following the film.
Highlights from Irish filmmakers include the low-budget action feature ‘No White Knight’ from director Kevin Marron. Shot in Co.Monaghan, the film tells the story of an easy-going debt collector who is experiencing a particularly bad weekend.
The Navan Film Festival is a competitive festival, and prizes will be awarded for Best Feature, Best Foreign Film and Best Short Film. Among the shorts competing for the Best Short Film award is Kevin McCann’s ‘Testing Times, Teddy boy’ a drama about a struggling Ulster farmer. Festival director Paul Cotrulia has revealed that half of the entries in the Best Short Film category are animated films.
All festival screenings will take place at the Diamond Cinema Navan, Co. Meath.
The Awards Ceremony will be held on Wednesday 10th of August at The Palace Bar-Club, Navan.
