Short Film Roundup: ‘Wounded Sandals’, 'Jellybaby' & ‘The Anti-Love Pill’
02 Aug 2013 : By Erica Moriarty
'Wounded Sandals' features a Middle Eastern mother mourning the loss of her son.
See the latest in Ireland’s short film circuit

‘Wounded Sandals’
Directed by Paco Torres, ‘Wounded Sandals’ is the first co-production between Ireland and Dubai. The film follows Azab and Fadwa after a horrific shooting in the time of war, during which Azab kills Fadwa’s oldest son Hanif. Inspired by the wave of Arab revolutions in the Middle East, ‘Wounded Sandals’ explores the thin line between life and death in a reflection of freedom at the cost of lives. The film was written by Paco Torres and Shane Pérez and will be shot in Galway and Dubai starting the beginning of August. Paco Torres recently completed the first Arabic film ‘The Rattle of Benghazi’ and has begun production on ‘Blue Guitar’.

‘Jellybaby’
The short film ‘Jellybaby’ tells the story of Jack and Jill - new parents with a baby that will not stop crying. At first the Jack and Jill thought it was a phase but as 11 months go by with incessant crying, the baby begins destroying the young couple’s relationship until Jack finds a helping hand. Made in 2005, ‘Jellybaby’ has moved its way through this year’s festival circuit with much popularity. The film was directed by Rob and Ronan Burke, written by Pierce Ryan and stars Tadhg Murphy and Katie Kirby as Jack and Jill.

‘The Anti-Love Pill’
True to the film’s name, ‘The Anti-Love Pill’ follows the love-sick man, Cillian as he searches for a cure for love. Written, directed and produced by Karl Argue, the film stars Karl himself alongside Vanessa Matias Fahy, Tara Power and Brian McGuiness. ‘The Anti-Love Pill was shot on location in Dublin in the Winter 2011 to the Spring 2012 and is produced by Adopt a Hermit Theatre & Film Productions.
