ROSG recently completed filming on a new feature docu-drama recounting the story of infamous informer, James Carey, who was shot dead on board the SS Melrose off the coast of South Africa in 1883, and the subsequent hanging of Patrick O’Donnell, a Gaeltacht man convicted of the murder.
The same team that brought Murdair Mhám Trasna to our screens has reassembled for this powerful telling of an extraordinary story, following extensive research that Seán Ó Cuirreáin has undertaken for ROSG.
“This project has been in the pipeline for quite some time and we are thrilled to now approach the final stages of production,” said Producer Ciarán Ó Cofaigh.
“It has been a different filming experience with COVID19. ROSG has taken every measure to ensure the safety and comfort of the crew, cast and local residents while filming.”
The leading characters in the feature docu-drama are portrayed by actors Stephen Jones, Eoghan Mac Giolla Bhríde, Brídín Ní Mhaoldomhnaigh, and Sophie Campbell.
“This story contains a wealth of captivating characters, fascinating historical detail and a dramatic storyline that will confound, exhilarate and ultimately move our audience,” Ó Cofaigh continued.
The project is directed by Tomás Seoighe, DOP is Burschi Wojnar, and designed by Margot Cullen. Ciarán Ó Cofaigh, Eilís Ní Cheallaigh and Seán Ó Cuirreáin feature as producers for the docu-drama with funding from TG4, Screen Ireland, and The BAI.
