IFTN Christmas Guide: Where to find your favourite Christmas films
18 Dec 2023 : Luke Shanahan
Its A Wonderful Life
IFTN provides a guide to finding your favourite Christmas films across the various streaming platforms available in Ireland.

In the age of streaming, it can be difficult to keep track of which streaming platform holds the rights to what films, unnecessarily complicating the process of sitting down with friends and family at Christmas to watch your favourite festive classics.

In response to this, we’ve put together a handy guide to reduce time spent scrolling through your various streamers, and cut straight to the chase.

Disney Plus

On Disney Plus, you can find not only Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost In New York, but also the franchise’s many sequels, including Home Sweet Home Alone starring Aisling Bea.

If you’re in the mood for another action-packed film about a hero distanced from his family during Christmas, who finds himself trapped and defending himself from criminals, you can also catch Die Hard on Disney Plus, as well as Die Hard 2.

Other festive favourites on the platform include Deck The Halls starring Danny Devito, The Santa Clause (and its two sequels) starring Tim Allen, The Muppet Christmas Carol, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Jingle All The Way, and the 1994 and 1947 versions of Miracle on 34th Street.

On the less traditional end of things, there’s also the now infamous Christmas episode of The Bear, ‘Fishes’.

Netflix

Netflix also boasts an impressive Christmas lineup with the 2000 Jim Carrey classic How The Grinch Stole Christmas, 2006’s The Holiday starring Jack Black and Cameron Diaz, and Brown Bag Films’ Angela’s Christmas, featuring an array of Irish talent such as Ruth Negga and Brian Gleeson.

The film’s sequel, Angela’s Christmas 2, is also available on the platform.

Amazon Prime

In addition to many films named on the list previously (Die Hard, the three Santa Clauses, the two Miracles on 34th Street, and the first two Home Alones), Amazon Prime also has Love, Actually, Elf, Christmas with the Kranks, Jack Frost, Bad Santa, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Scrooged, Fred Claus, and most importantly of all, It’s A Wonderful Life.

IFI Player

Closer to home, It’s A Wonderful Life is available to rent on the IFI player, as is 1954’s White Christmas starring Bing Crosby, and the Norwegian-Finnish Christmas horror-comedy There's Something in the Barn.
