The Hollywood Reporter has named writer-producer-actor and seven-time IFTA winner Sharon Horgan among the most influential women in international television.
In a year in which film industry discussions have been focused on the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, and related concerns around the development of AI technologies, The Hollywood Reporter has put together a list that places a spotlight on the state of gender equality in film and television. The list consists of influential non-American female executives and creatives based outside the United States.
Among the women named on the list is Sharon Horgan, seven-time IFTA winner and two-time BAFTA winner. The Hollywood Reporter had this to say about the award-winning writer-producer and actor:
“Horgan’s well-established status as one of the most sharply funny TV creators around reached a whole new level with Apple TV+‘s hit Bad Sisters. The delightfully macabre comedy-drama — which she wrote, produced and stars in — garnered four Emmy nominations (including one for Horgan as outstanding lead actress), and is already in production on season two. She also created the HBO show Divorce, starring Sarah Jessica Parker, the recent Starz horror comedy Shining Vale, starring Courteney Cox, and has several upcoming projects in the works, including shows with Hulu and Amazon.”
Other female creatives and executives named in the list include Cécile Frot-Coutaz, the CEO of Sky Studios; Verónica Fernández, the Director of fiction series at Netflix España, and UK screenwriter Sally Wainwright.
