LOL will be hosted by Norton and filmed entirely in Ireland. The show follows ten Irish comedians competing against each other. The six-part series will film in Dublin this spring.
"I'm thrilled to be the host for the first Irish Original, LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland on Prime Video, and to be working on home ground for the first time in many, many years,” said host Graham Norton. “I'm so proud of our comedy culture and it's wonderful to have a platform to showcase Irish talent to a global audience. I can't wait to see what our comedy masterminds do to get the laughter going."
“Graham Norton and Last One Laughing is a match made in heaven,” said Dan Grabiner, head of originals for UK and Northern Europe, Amazon Studios. “Ireland is home to world-class comedy and a booming television scene; we can’t wait to celebrate and be part of that with our first Irish Original production.”
The format of the show originates from a successful Amazon Original series in Japan called Documental, created by and starring Hitoshi Matsumoto. Ten comics, betting with their own money, try to make one another laugh in a closed room and the last contestant remaining in the room without laughing wins the grand prize.
Documental became the most watched title on Prime Video in Italy and Germany, and had successful local versions of the show in Mexico, Australia, India, France, Spain, Canada, The Netherlands, Colombia, Brazil, and Sweden.
LOL: Last One Laughing Ireland stream exclusively on Prime Video in 2024.
