The giant screen exhibitor Imax has signed a deal with production companies Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures to digitally re-master ‘Dracula Untold’, the latest origins film on the world’s most famous vampire. Universal and Legendary Pictures have scheduled the film to be released in giant screen theatres from October 2nd 2014. Imax will screen the film on North American screens from October 17th.
Greg Foster, the CEO of Imax Entertainment and senior executive vice-president of Imax Corp, has stated, “Dracula is perhaps the most iconic horror story ever told, and this new twist on this classic tale is sure to appeal to Imax audiences around the world.”
Described as an origin story, ‘Dracula Untold’ will see Luke Evans (‘The Hobbit’, ‘Fast & Furious 6’) take on the iconic role in a plot that sees the true story of Vlad the Impaler combined with the legend of Dracula created by Bram Stoker. Other cast members include Sarah Gadon, Dominic Cooper, Diarmuid Murtagh, Charlie Cox and Samantha Banks.
The film marks the feature debut of Irish director Gary Shore. The film’s screenplay is by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Michael de Luca is producing through Michael de Luca Productions.
The feature was shot in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It is currently in post-production.
