Years after witnessing the death of the revered hero Maximus at the hands of his uncle, Lucius (Paul Mescal) is forced to enter the Colosseum after his home is conquered by the tyrannical Emperors who now lead Rome with an iron fist. With rage in his heart and the future of the Empire at stake, Lucius must look to his past to find strength and honor to return the glory of Rome to its people.
Mescal is joined in an all-star ensemble cast that includes Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us), Denzel Washington (Training Day), Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things), and Fred Hechinger (The White Lotus), Lior Raz, as well as returning cast members of the original film Connie Nielsen (Nobody) and Derek Jacobi (Hamlet).
The upcoming sequel sees Scott collaborate once more with Academy Award-nominated cinematographer John Mathieson, Academy Award-nominated production designer Arthur Max, and Academy Award-winning costume designer Janty Yates, all of whom worked on the original Gladiator. As well as writer David Scarpa who worked with Scott on All The Money In The World.
Mescal, the IFTA-winning and Oscar-nominated star of Normal People, Aftersun and All of Us Strangers, will star as Lucius, the son of Lucilla, Russell Crowe’s love interest in the original 2000 film.
Gladiator II releases in Cinemas November 15th.
