Jessie Buckley Joins Cast of Dominic Cooke’s Cold War Drama 'Ironbark'

Irish actress Jessie Buckley is set to feature alongside Benedict Cumberbatch and Rachel Brosnahan after boarding the cast of Dominic Cooke’s new feature film ‘Ironbark’.

The Cold War drama, which tells the story of Greville Wynne (played by Cumberbatch), has also added Angus Wright, Kirill Pirogov and Merab Ninidze to the cast ahead of principal photography getting underway in London.

According to ScreenDaily, Buckley will play Sheila Wynne, the wife of British businessman Greville Wynne (Cumberbatch). The story, which is based on true events, chronicles how Wynne helped the CIA penetrate the Soviet nuclear programme during the Cold War. Wynne and his Russian source, Oleg Penkovsky, provided the crucial intelligence that ended the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Having been named as a ‘Screen Star of Tomorrow’ in 2017, the Kerry actress has enjoyed a busy 18 months featuring  in a number of BBC dramas including Tom Hardy’s 'Taboo', war drama 'The Last Post' and period thriller 'The Woman in White', which was filmed in Belfast.  Buckley has also featured alongside Johnny Flynn in Michael Pearce’s crime drama ‘Beast’ and received rave reviews more recently for her performance in Tom Harper’s TIFF Selected ‘Wild Rose’.

Other upcoming projects include 'Judy', the Judy Garland biopic, which will see Buckley, play Rosalyn Wilder and the Irish star is also set to feature in the Robert Downey Jr. led ‘The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle’ due out in 2020.

Written by Tom O’Connor, ‘Ironbark’ is being produced by 42’s Ben Pugh and Rory Aitken, SunnyMarch’s Adam Ackland and FilmNation Emertainment. Director Dominic Cooke, Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom O’Connor will executive produce with Josh Varney (42) and Leah Clarke (SunnyMarch).

Principle Photography is set to get underway on Monday, October 15th.
