Mark Noonan's 'Kevin Roche: The Quiet Architect' Documentary Set to Feature at New Zealand International Film Festival
09 Jul 2018 : Nathan Griffin
Mark Noonan’s acclaimed documentary ‘Kevin Roche: The Quiet Architect’ will play the New Zealand International Film Festival, a unique film festival that sees films play in 11 cities nationwide, starting in Auckland and running from July 19th – August 15th.

The first of four screenings in Auckland begin on July 24th at the Rialto Cinemas, which will be followed by another four showings in Wellington (July 27th –August 12th).

A smaller programme taken from the 150 – 170 titles shown in Auckland and Wellington travels to 11 more cities, and ‘Kevin Roche: The Quiet Architect’ has already been confirmed for multiple screenings in Christchurch (August 2nd – 19th) with more to be confirmed as the organisers announce their line-ups for each city with Dunedin (August 9th-26th) being next on July 16th.

‘Kevin Roche: The Quiet Architect’, which had its world premiere in Dublin at the IFI Documentary Festival was released on DVD in Ireland on May 5th.  It’s also been released in cinemas and on DVD in Germany and has been picked up for distribution in the USA & Canada.

The documentary’s subject, Kevin Roche, who celebrated his 96th birthday on 14 June, is a highly influential architect whose work remains just as relevant and thought provoking today as at any time in his 70 year career.  This has just been re-affirmed in the most contemporary of settings, the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale (May 26th –Nov 25th), the world most prestigious architectural exhibition.  The Biennale’s curators selected an extended sequence from the documentary focusing on his design for the Ford Foundation (1968) to screen for the duration of the exhibition.

The film’s producer and sales agent John Flahive said:

“The New Zealand Film Festival is a truly wonderful event bringing so many independent and foreign language films to cities and towns across the country, and it’s great to be part of that.  I’m especially happy to be working again with Festival Director Bill Gosden and his team on an Irish film, the last time being the international premiere of Robert Flaherty: A Boatload of Wild Irishmen in 2011.”

‘Kevin Roche: The Quiet Architect’ is an Irish Film Board and Ford Foundation|Just Films presentation of a Wavelength Pictures production in association with Still Films.
