16 Apr 2018 : Nathan Griffin
Following on from the announcement last month that Filmbase was closing its doors and going into liquidation, writer & former Filmbase tutor Eilish Kent is honouring the deposits of those that had already enrolled in her course prior to last month’s surprising news.

Kent will be teaching two courses: Writing TV Drama & Writing Feature Film.

Applications for both courses are still being accepted and booking can be made through the links below.

Writing TV Drama

Tuesday 15th May 2018 – 3rd July 2018, 19:00 - 22:00

The Writer's Guild, Art House, Curved St. D2

Booking: https://www.eilishkent.com/events/writing-tv-drama

Creative Ireland is committed to developing Ireland as a media production hub of excellence; one of the aspirations is that Ireland becomes an international player in TV Drama.

This is great news for writers, as producers will be seeking new originated series for streaming services like Netflix, Amazon, and YouTube.  In addition, the BBC and ITV have stated their intention to develop new drama series to serve audience hungry for the box-set viewing experience.  This means more opportunities for new and emerging talent.

If you have an idea you think could work as a TV Drama this course is for you.  Or if you would like to give writing TV Drama a shot this course if for you.  Or if you are a producer, script editor or reader who wants to develop their story structure skill this course is for you.

Over eight weeks, one evening a week you will be challenged to test and develop your ideas.

Writing Feature Film

Wednesday 16th May 2018 – 4th July 2018. 19:00 - 22:00.

The Writer's Guild, Art House, Curved St. D2

Booking: https://www.eilishkent.com/events/writing-feature-films

Three-hour classes for eight weeks. Participants have an ongoing opportunity to pitch and refine their feature film idea within the class.

This is an interesting time for domestic feature films following on the critical success of films as diverse as Michael Inside and The Young Offenders.  The Irish Film Board has launched a new, low-budget  initiative, POV, aimed at female writers and directors.  Now that the means of production are so accessible the obstacles to making a feature film have been reduced, but it all starts with the page.  In this eight-week course you will explore the fundamentals of writing feature film, the elements to consider for low or no budget filmmaking.  How to find your voice as a writer.  The risks that should be taken and what rules are worth breaking.
