The Gaiety School of Acting Welcomes Joe Dowling for Special Shakespeare Masterclass
01 Feb 2018 : Nathan Griffin
The Gaiety School of Acting has announced that they will be welcoming former artistic director of The Abbey Theatre Dublin, Joe Dowling for a rigorous 2-day masterclass in April 2018.

The masterclass, which will take place across Wednesday, April 11th and Thursday, April 12th is designed to enrich and improve students understanding and expression of Shakespearian language, character, and playwriting.

In addition to exploring characters and deepening the knowledge of the language, Joe will assist attending students in studying the relevance of Shakespearean themes in modern contexts as well as meticulous monologue work with each actor.

About Joe Dowling
Recognising the dearth of professional actor training in Ireland, Joe Dowling founded the Gaiety School of Acting in 1986.  Joe is also the former artistic director of the Abbey Theatre and has directed in all the major theatres in Dublin, in London, Stratford, Ontario and on Broadway. From 1995 until 2015, he was artistic director for the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States.

Entry is by application only, with a CV stating professional work and training to date.
