The Gaiety School of Acting announce a number of Masterclasses for this Autumn/Winter

The Gaiety school of acting has announced that they will be running six different masterclasses during the Autumn and Winter.

The masterclasses are diverse and span across a wide range of areas including: Voice Acting, Casting & Auditioning, Stage Combat, Stand-Up Comedy, Commedia Dell’Arte and Singing workshops all available to attend.

All courses are €100 to take part in with some having age restrictions. 

Voice Acting
The day long course will see attendees work with the voice coach, who will see them develop a number of skills and techniques throughout the day that will help attain an authentic accent. Vocal and physical exercises will be demonstrated with popular accents covered. Texts are provided in these accents for you to practice and improve upon as well as learning how to implement voice overs and character voices.

The course will also focus on an accent workshop in an effort to help attendees develop an authentic voice for anywhere from stage to voice-overs and will cost €100 to attend.

Participants of the Accent Masterclass can expect to:

  • Learn what to look for in order to break down any accent into its constituent parts.
  • Analyse and then practice the useful accents of Received Pronunciation, Cockney and General American.
  • Gain a great addition to your cv

The course will take place from 10am-5pm in the Gaiety School of Acting, Temple Bar on the 13th August, 6th Nov, 12th Feb and 14th May. You must be 18+ to avail of the event.

Casting & Audition Masterclass
This one day event focuses on giving attendees a strong insight to the process of casting calls and auditions and will be hosted by one of Ireland’s leading casting agents from Louise Kiely Casting.

Giving unique insider tips on how to catch casting member’s attention and how to increase your chances of leaving a lasting impression. This course is highlighted as being particularly useful to those returning or starting their careers and will cost €100 to attend.

Areas covered include:

  • How to make an immediate impression and look confident
  • How to introduce yourself to camera and the director
  • Practical advice for auditioning to camera
  • Script preparation for auditions
  • Basic improvisation skills
  • How to stay in character in the Audition process
  • How to take Direction
  • What NOT to say in an Audition
  • Demonstrations of a good and bad Audition

The course will take place from 10am-5pm in the Gaiety School of Acting, Temple Bar on the 13th August, 13th November, 29th January and 21st May. You must be 18+ to avail of the event.

Stage Combat Workshop
This intensive day long workshop will guide participants through the craft of stage combat, covering important safety skills for use in stage and screen. The course will be a practical one, with students first observing and then participating in the techniques and exercises guided by the instructor.

Participants of the Stage Combat workshop can expect to:

  • Learn the basic skills of unarmed combat
  • Learn the basic skills of rapier and dagger combat
  • Understand the mechanics of a fight scene
  • Learn important safety factors necessary for fight scenes
  • Learn how to build dramatic tension with use of fight scenes

The course will take place from 10am-5pm in the Gaiety School of Acting, Temple Bar on the 6th August, 20th November, 26th March  and 11th June. The course will cost €100 to attend.

Stand-Up Comedy
Stand-Up Comedy is a one day intensive course in creating and shaping material for performance. Attendees will work with an established comedian to develop hilarious content, hone their unique style and build their confidence.

Participants of Stand Up Comedy can expect to learn:

  • How to be comfortable on stage
  • Audience rapport
  • How to make your audience laugh (whether audience is one person or a thousand people).
  • How to lead an audience
  • How to relax your audience
  • How to be likeable on stage
  • How to develop material
  • How to present yourself with effective movement
  • How to deal with stage fright
  • Storytelling skills
  • How to become a better comedian faster
  • Personal psychology
  • Improvisation, on the spot thinking
  • To be in control even when outside your comfort zone.

The course will take place from 10am-5pm in the Gaiety School of Acting, Temple Bar on the 20th November, 12th March and 11th June. The course will cost €100 to attend.

Commedia Dell’Arte
The Dell’Arte workshop is a fast paced and fun introduction to this cruel, tragic theatre style that has no regrets. Led by actor, teacher, director and writer Ronan Dempsey, this workshop intends to excite, enthral and inform attendees in all styles far beyond Commedia.

The course will take place from 10am-5pm in the Gaiety School of Acting, Temple Bar on the 27th November, 26th February and 23rd April. The course will cost €100 to attend.

Singing Workshop
The singing workshop will be led by vocal coach Shelly Buskpan who will give all attendees a basic understanding of how the voice is produced and worked through song. The one day course will be divided into two sections with morning focusing on supporting and controlling the voice through warm up exercises and routines while the afternoon focusing on performance through song.

Attendees are asked to prepare one song and bring a copy of the lyrics to the workshop but are not expected to be able to read sheet music to qualify for the course.

  • Learn how to support, control, develop and enhance your natural vocal ability through exercises that focus on breathing, support, voice resonance and placement
  • Learn how to tailor-make a warm-up and exercise routine that will allow you to further develop and strengthen your natural abilities after the course
