New Horizons Colloquium 2017 to hold National Conversation on Women in Irish Film & Television

The one-day event is set to take place in Mary Immaculate College, Co. Limerick on Friday March 3rd, with industry professionals, funding body representatives, broadcasters and more in attendance to engage in dialogue on the matter of gender equality in the industry.

A reflection on activities for women in film and television in 2016 will be followed by a discussion on what can be done this year to further the pursuit of gender equality in the industry.

A diverse audience composed of writers, producers, directors, film festival programmers, educators and more will be in attendance.

Representatives from organisations such as Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, the Irish Film Board, Screen Training Ireland, Screen Directors Guild of Ireland, Screen Producers Ireland, Writers Guild of Ireland, Equality Action Committee and Women in Film and Television will also take part.

Additional speakers are yet to be added, but the line-up at present includes the following:

Caroline Norbury MBE, CEO Creative England, which is a pioneering not-for-profit company which accelerates talent and ideas across tech, games, film and TV.

Professor Anna Wahl of KTH Stockholm, a renowned expert on gendered organisational cultures and combating unconscious bias. Professor Wahl has worked closely with many organisations including the Swedish Film Institute.

Melissa Silverstein, a writer, campaigner and blogger, as well as Founder of Women and Hollywood and Artistic Director and co-founder of the Athena Film Festival.

Two Irish panels will look at gender and organisations and finding and nurturing female talent. Confirmed speakers for those panels include:

  • James Hickey – CEO Irish Film Board
  • Leslie McKimm –  Project Manager Irish Film Board
  • Alan Esslemont – Director TG4
  • Jane Gogan – Head of Drama, RTE
  • Celine Craig – Deputy CEO Broadcasting Authority of Ireland
  • Orla O Connor – Director National Women’s Council of Ireland
  • Leslie McKimm – Project Manager Irish Film Board
  • Siobhan Farrell  – Eclipse Pictures – Film Distributors
  • Screen Training Ireland
