Education and Training Profile 2017:

Pulse College has grown from strength to strength since acquiring the world famous Windmill Lane Recording Studios, which resulted in attracting celebrity clients including U2, 50 Cent, Kings of Leon, The Script and, more recently, Lady Gaga.

Its state of the art facilities encompass five professional recording studios, post-production facilities, gaming development labs, and film and green screen studios, making it an attractive prospect to students eager to break into an increasingly competitive industry.

Introductory and short courses are offered and diploma and degree courses up to Masters level. All courses are delivered by industry professionals who have worked with the recording artists mentioned above; on TV productions such as 'Game of Thrones'; and with Games Ireland.

Ray Lonergan, Marketing Manager Pulse College, told IFTN that Pulse College offers students direct access to industry, with commercialised facilities spanning Windmill Lane's recording capabilities and their Film and Games departments; offering full TV production capabilities and incubation units within their games campus.

Entry requirements are course dependent. Some may require an interview and a high level of passion for the proposed field, while others are a combination of interview, portfolio (animation) and CAO Points (BA in Music Production / BA in Film & TV Production / Music Production for Games Diploma / Higher Certificate in Games).

"Creative practical learners tend to excel in our courses," Mr Lonergan said. "As we educate and lead by example our students get the benefits of learning academic modules while using industry standard facilities. This greatly eases the learning process by placing the students in a setting where they enjoy what they are doing, easing their time studying."

Recent graduates who have already achieved noteworthy success include degree student Brian Sheils who was nominated for both International Recording Engineer and International Producer of the year at The Music Producers Guild Awards 2013, in the UK.

Other alumni are now working throughout the world with U2, Lego Games and, closer to home, with Brown Bag media and Windmill Lane Pictures.

Pulse College's full time staff members are comprised of sound engineers who operate at the top of their game, having worked with 50 Cent and Lady Gaga. Other high level guest lecturers include Ger McDonnell, who has worked with U2, Van Morrison and The Priests; and Farah Abushwesha, who delivers scriptwriting seminars with the BAFTAs.

Pulse College now offers Ireland's only MA in Film Scoring and Visual Media, which will commence this year and is taught by world-class composers.
