Niamh Walsh and Sam Keeley to Feature in New Netflix Original Series 'The English Game'

Irish actors Niamh Walsh and Sam Keeley
Production is underway on Netflix’s new series ‘The English Game’, written and created by Academy Award winner Jullian Fellowes.

The six-part drama charts the origins of football and how those involved in its creation reached across the class divide to establish the game as the world's most popular sport. The series is written and executive produced by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes and produced by 42 (‘Watership Down’, ‘Traitors’).

Irish actors Niamh Walsh (‘Jamestown’, ‘Jekyll & Hyde’) and Sam Keeley (‘Anthropoid’) will star alongside Edward Holcroft (‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’), Kevin Guthrie (‘Dunkirk’), Charlotte Hope (‘Les Misérables’, ‘Game of Thrones’), Craig Parkinson (‘Line of Duty’), James Harkness (‘Macbeth’, ‘Darkest Hour’), Gerard Kearns (‘Looking For Eric’), Joncie Elmore (‘Downton Abbey’), Daniel Ings (‘The Crown’), Kate Dickie (‘Red Road’), Henry Lloyd Hughes (‘Killing Eve’), Kate Phillips (‘Peaky Blinders’), Ben Batt (‘Scott & Bailey’), Sylvestra Le Touzel (‘The Death of Stalin’), Harry Michell (‘Devils’) and Anthony Andrews (‘The King’s Speech’).

The series is directed by Birgitte Stærmose (‘The Spanish Princess’, ‘Darling’) and Tim Fywell (‘Happy Valley’, ‘Grantchester) and produced by Rhonda Smith (‘Fresh Meat’, ‘Traitors’).

Executive producers include Julian Fellowes as well as Rory Aitken, Eleanor Moran and Ben Pugh for 42 and Eddie Charlton. Ben Vanstone is a Co-Executive Producer

Keeley can next be seen in Element Pictures’ ‘Dublin Murders’ alongside Sarah Greene and Killian Scott, while Niamh Walsh can next be seen in season three of Sky One’s period drama ‘Jamestown’.

‘The English Game’ is currently shooting on location in the UK and will launch on Netflix in 2020.
