From South Park to Star Wars and the Future of Animation: In Conversation with Terrence Masson

Screen Skills Ireland is partnering with Animation Ireland and Animation Skillnet to host a discussion with Terrence Masson on Monday the 8th of April.

Chair of the MFA Computer Arts department at the School of Visual Arts in NYC, Terrence is an animation and visual effects artist and producer with 30 years of production and education leadership experience. He came up through the ranks on more than 20 feature films including ‘Hook’, ‘True Lies’, ‘Interview with the Vampire’ and three ‘Star Wars’ movies; his work also includes short animated film, broadcast, video games, and interactive media. He developed the original CG animation method for South Park in 1996 and his short film ‘Bunkie & Booboo’ won first place in the World Animation Celebration.

A past ACM Distinguished Lecturer, Terrence has delivered over 100 presentations, panels and keynotes worldwide including for the Boston Museum of Science, Lawrence Livermore National Labs, Annecy, Microsoft New England Research & Development Center, FMX, MIT Lincoln Labs, University of California Berkeley, The Director Guild of America, Purdue University and ISEA, just to name a few.

Terrence will share behind the scenes stories from his 30-year production and education career and give his insights into the future of animation. It will be a conversation about what it takes to succeed in producing animation and visual effects for movies, video games, theme parks, and new VR & AR platforms. In addition to talking and showing about the global creative industry, he will talk about the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and the endless pursuit of education.

This talk is aimed at graduates and professionals who want to further their knowledge of the Animation and Visual Effects industries.
