07 Mar 2019 : News Desk
RHIFF team members Zeb Moore and Simon Maguire
The festival will screen a selection of films by female filmmakers, writers and producers on International Women’s Day, Friday 8th March in association with the Limerick City and County Council and Friar’s Gate Theatre.

Taking place in August of each year, the Richard Harris International Film Festival (RHIFF) celebrates the life and works of Richard Harris and those who follow in his footsteps. Affiliated to IFTA (Irish Film and Television Awards) and collaborating with Newport Beach Film Festival, RHIFF offers a platform where Irish and International film-makers from home and abroad can meet, collaborate and view each other's work.

The 2019 International Women’s Day Screening continues the festival’s commitment and support of female filmmakers. A selection of short films by women will screen on the evening from Ireland, Canada and the U.K. The short films previously screened at RHIFF 2018:

The whole ordeal shakes the very foundation on which the family built their lives as they try to come to terms with a year’s salary being whisked away in an instant. Written and directed by Siobháin McMahon and produced by Emma Owen.

Sasha of The Sea
Growing up along the rugged coastline of Northern Ireland, all young Sasha wants is to spend her days on the water. However her fondness for the sea is tested when her father goes missing in a fishing accident and her world comes crashing down - opening her eyes to the greater meanings of life and love. Written by Maire Campbell, directed by Sammy Nutt and produced by Joan Burney Keatings.

Oíche Nollaig Na mBan
Women’s Christmas Night - A highly visual and feminist response to Séan Ó'Riordáin's famous Irish language poem.  Oonagh Kearney has written and directed nine short films and one full-length arts documentary with the support of the Irish Arts Council, Irish Film Board, RTE, TG4, BRITDOC and The Welcome Trust.

Hold The Line
Em works in a call centre. She faces a day that’s more difficult than the usual ‘customer care queries’ and is on the brink. That’s until she picks up the phone to Patsy. Written by Laura O’Shea and directed by Karen Killeen & Laura O’ Shea.

Reel Women Seen
The story of the realities faced by women in the film and TV industry yet simultaneously depicts the necessary, possible and achievable ways to transform them.  One continuous narrative unfolds through a series of brief parodies, ending with resolve for change. Written by Elvira Kurt, directed by Amanda Tapping and produced by Heather Allin.

Go Home
Battling between reason and delusion Siofra takes us on a visceral journey through the troubled inner workings of a young woman's mind. ‘Go Home’ is a conceptual spoken word piece that deals with grief and self-reflection. Written by Siofra O'Meara, Shane Robinson and Emma Foley, directed by Shane Robinson and produced by Tamryn Reinecke and Emma Foley.

Entrance No Exit
An OCD tennis player is on a long haul flight to Australia. Mid-flight she needs the loo. Simple, right? Wrong. Can Helen overcome her demons and escape the toilet before the plane lands? Written by Sophie Dix and directed by Jo Southwell.
