IFB Chief Executive James Hickey Welcomes Announcement for New Film Studios in Dublin
26 May 2016 : Seán Brosnan
New studios are said to be in the advanced stage of development
The Irish Film Board has welcomed plans to establish film studios in Dublin which are said to be in the advanced stage of development and backed by many Hollywood studios.

Windmill Lane Studios founder James Morris and film producer Alan Moloney have confirmed they are developing proposals to build studios on the former Irish Glass Bottle site at Ringsend.

Commenting on the announcement James Hickey Chief Executive, the Irish Film Board said: "This is very good news for the Irish film and television industry. There is an urgent need for increased studio infrastructure in Ireland to increase production activity which will create further employment opportunities in the audio-visual industry, building on the success of the industry to date. We have been working for some time with this project and look forward to further plans for the studio being announced."

180,000 sq ft of studio space with additional space for production services and several individual sound stages will be constructed on the site. The studio will aim to attract local and international film and television production activity.

Current Irish film studios include Ashford Studios where the TV series ‘Vikings’ will begin filming its fifth season next month and Ardmore Studios in Co. Wicklow where the TV series ‘Penny Dreadful’ has been filming for the last number of years. Planned studios include Troy Studios in Limerick and Belfast Harbour Studios in the North where the Emmy winning ‘Game of Thrones’ films in Titanic Studios.
