The Audiovisual Federation was established in September 1992 to promote the development of Ireland's audiovisual production and distribution industry. Its membership comprises firms ranging from Broadcasters RTE, TG4, UTV, independent producers, animation studios, facilities, legal and financial firms involved in the audiovisual sector and DVD rental companies.

Affiliated member organisations include Screen Producers Ireland, Bord Scannan na hEireann, Film Base, The Film Institute of Ireland, Enterprise Ireland, Udaras na Gaeltachta, FAS Screen Training Ireland and BAI
