About Screen Skills Ireland

Screen Skills Ireland is the skills development business unit within Fis Éireann/Screen Ireland (SI), the national development agency for the creative screen industry. Screen Skills Ireland has responsibility for investing in people and skills development across film, television and animation. Screen Skills Ireland designs, develops and delivers industry-focused skills development initiatives encompassing film, TV, animation, games and VFX, for all roles from new entrants to company leaders.

About Screen Leaders

Screen Leaders is the strategic company development programme for the screen industries that can transform businesses. Designed for company leaders working in film, television, animation, games, post-production, VFX, facilities, sales, distribution, and exhibition, it is funded by the Creative Europe Programme and Screen Skills Ireland.

Screen Leaders provides an extensive toolkit to grow and develop companies and industry leaders. The programme focuses on strategic planning; the ability to implement strategic decisions; methodologies to align company culture to the strategic plan; development of organisational structure; and the skills to adapt to change, foster innovation, explore new and developing business models and build company value. Screen Leaders enables participants to make informed strategic decisions, which support the future growth of their companies. This programme focuses on the execution and implementation of company strategies and building industry leaders.

The Screen Leaders programme is aimed at company leaders leading companies across the value chain in industry sectors such as film, television, animation, games, post-production, VFX, facilities, sales, distribution and exhibition.

Goals and Objectives

  • To enhance the entrepreneurial skills of European audio-visual Promoters
  • To develop ambition and confidence in European audio-visual Promoters
  • To create stronger and more commercially viable European audio-visual Companies
  • To create a cooperative and trusting network of industry professionals who can utilise each other’s talent, capabilities, and contacts to create more and better productions and to place those productions competitively on the international market.

Screen Leaders provides participants with the opportunity to take a step back and invest in their own personal development and company development. Our team work with the companies to assist them to plan strategically, influence change, collaborate and communicate effectively. Our aim is to equip the participants with the skills and tools needed to implement their new strategy for their company. Unusually for such a programme the execution steps are mapped out as part of the process and the companies commit to taking these steps to implement their plan while on the programme.

The Screen Leaders Programme

The optimum number of candidates is 8 -10 companies with 2 company promoters per company.  The company promoters must be able to effect change within the organisation and so should be the CEO and another senior person COO, CFO or CTO.

The programme is divided into 3 modules and 1 and 3 are residential with classes over a 3.5 day period.  The emphasis is on one-to-one coaching throughout the whole programme.

The curriculum is developed by Screen Skills Ireland with the Tutors and the emphasis is on learning and then the practical application of the learning.  A key aspect of the course is the one-to-one coaching that takes place.

At the conclusion of the programme we anticipate that participants know how to craft a strategy, understand the dynamics at play within their companies in terms of resourcing, team interaction and delivery and know what will point them towards long-term sustainability.  They should have a strategy that they can develop and set milestones and a personal development plan.

Typical topics covered over the course of the programme –

  • The Role of Strategy and Leadership
  • Leadership Group Work – Understanding ourselves and others
  • Understanding Company Cash Flows
  • Making Innovation Work
