Irish VR project 'Faoladh' screens on 700 metre 3D cinema and nominated for two Venice TV Award
14 Oct 2019 : News Desk
Tile Films' cinematic VR experience, Faoladh.
Tile Films cinematic VR experience has made its way to the silver screen, but not just any screen, Faoladh is being shown on a 700 square metre hybrid cinema thanks to Beyond, Experimenta and the V-Sense Project Trinity College.

The film is also making its mark on the festival circuit having been nominated twice at the Venice TV Awards (One for "Best of Technology and Innovation" and one for "Children / Youth") and is now being screened at the Future Imaging Art Week in collaboration with vrcore in China.

“It’s really great to see Irish art and Irish culture being supported aboard, it’s critical for nascent art forms like VR to be shared on a global stage so we can unlock more diverse opportunities for creative collaboration,” said Declan Dowling who directed the film in collaboration with Google VR.

“This giant 3D cinema is one of a kind and comes complete with fog, wind and other interactive elements allowing the viewer to take part in an immersive experience without the need for VR goggles or other isolating hardware. It’s the perfect place for Faoladh and were delighted to be collaborating with Experimenta and the Beyond festival teams.”

The film follows the perilous journey of a 9th century Irish child who's village is attacked by Viking raiders and you, the viewer, will play the role of a wolf like guardian spirit that must guide him to safety. The film was featured on RTE.ie and with the collaboration of the V-Sense Project Trinity College; it also formed the basis for a research paper published by Springer.
