Bleecker Street has acquired the U.S. distribution rights to Lisa Barros D’Sa and Glenn Leyburn’s new Northern Ireland-shot drama ‘Normal People’ starring Lesley Manville & Liam Neeson.

Produced by Brian J. Falconer David Holmes and Piers Tempest, ‘Normal People’ is currently in post-production with a 2019 theatrical release planned for the film.

Written by Owen McCafferty, the film sees Neeson and Manville play an everyday couple with an extraordinary love who must find the humor and grace to face a year of adversity.

Jo Bamford for Tempo Productions, Stephen Kelliher for Bankside Films, Natascha Wharton for the BFI, Phil Hunt and Compton Ross for Head Gear Films/Metrol Technology and Mark Huffam will serve as executive producers on the project.

Speaking with ScreenDaily about the news, D’Sa & Leyburn said:

Normal People has been a labour of love for our incredible cast and creative team. We’re thrilled now to partner with Bleecker Street, who has such a strong history in distributing compelling, thought-provoking films. We look forward to an exciting journey with Andrew and the team.”

Bleecker Street CEO Andrew Karpen added:

“This is such a beautiful story of love and commitment as portrayed between two of the world’s most talented actors. It’s magical to watch as they find strength and an ever-deepening connection.”

‘Normal People‘ is a Canderblinks Films and Out of Orbit production, which received funding from Northern Ireland Screen in association with Head Gear Films, Metrol Technology and Kreo Films, and the British Film Institute using National Lottery funds.

The deal was handled by Bankside Films who represent the filmmakers.
