Cast & Crew of 'The Young Offenders' Celebrates Season Finale At Special Screening in Cork
12 Mar 2018 : Nathan Griffin
The cast & crew of the hit comedy series ‘The Young Offenders’ celebrated the season finale of the show with a premiere for charity in Cork city last night – Sunday, March 11th.

The screening took place in the English Market, Ireland’s oldest indoor food market and a key location to the film and television series.

The show, which has already been commissioned for a second season is set to broadcast it’s season finale on RTÉ, this Thursday – March 15th at 9:30pm.

Speaking at the event, Hilary Rose (Mairead MacSweeney) said:

"It's kind of mind-blowing really. When you make something that you're really proud of, it's wonderfully to see everyone else really appreciate it."

Alex Murphy, who plays Conor MacSweeney said:

"The fact that it's going down so well in the UK and for us it's still this small little Cork film that for other people has obviously grown but it's stayed the same for us so it's hard to wrap your head around how successful it is."

‘The Young Offenders’ debut on RTÉ2 recorded an audience of 277,000 viewers, and was the top programme for 15 to 44 year olds. The first episode of the brand new six part series had a share of 36% among 15-34s and a massive 68% share among males aged 15 to 24. In addition, there were 16,600 live and on-demand streams of ‘The Young Offenders on RTÉ Player during its debut (84% live, 16% on-demand).

Writer / Director Peter Foott thanked Cork for their hospitality while shooting saying:

"We spent so long filming in The English Market it has been such an integral part of The Young Offenders, so it seems perfect to have the premiere of the last episode of series one here. The team in the Market have been so accommodating and even starred in some of the episodes, so we’re delighted to show the final episode in Cork and celebrate with the people of Cork, I hope you all like how the series ends and we can't wait to get started on series two".

Written and directed by Peter Foott, the six part series follows the coming-of-age adventures of lovable rogues Conor & Jock (Alex Murphy and Chris Walley) as they navigate their awkward teenage years, hatching plans and adventures to help distract from their tough home lives and their inability to stay out of trouble at school. Conor's long suffering mother Mairead (Hilary Rose) tries to keep both her son and his best friend on the straight and narrow, with varying degrees of success.

‘The Young Offenders’ was commissioned for BBC Three and is made in association with RTÉ. Yesterday, BBC Comedy announced that it has ordered a further six episodes of the hit comedy from producers Vico Films. RTÉ said it welcomed the opportunity to work with BBC Comedy and Vico Films on series two.

The season finale of ‘The Young Offenders’ will air on RTÉ2 on Thursdays at 9.30pm, on the RTÉ Player, and on BBC One on Fridays straight after ‘The Graham Norton Show’.
