New Irish Canadian Co-Production Deal Agreed Ahead of MIPCOM
09 Oct 2017 : Nathan Griffin
Canada’s True Gravity Productions and Ireland’s Sideline Productions will be signing a major co-production agreement at MIPCOM in Cannes next week to develop and produce new scripted and non-scripted TV shows for the global market.

Both TGP’s Warren Campbell and SP’s Billy McGrath will officially ink the deal on Monday morning October 16th. The decision comes in the wake of the official bi-lateral co-production agreement between the Canadian and Irish Governments covering feature film, television production and other forms of digital production.

The Irish and Canadian co-production agreements were established to ‘facilitate cultural and creative exchange between the co-production countries; allow the co-production countries to share the risk and cost of production and to increase the output of high quality productions’.

Both Sideline and True Gravity believe that the ambitious move is the way forward for like-minded progressive independent companies.  The first three projects developed and pitched at MIPCOM are Cemetery Cop – a new ‘spirited’ comedy drama based on the true story of a graveyard night security officer; a major new adventure factual series Dying to Fly investigates the huge dangers of early aviation races including the first ever flight from Canada to Ireland and finally Bellevue Country Club – a new ’fish out of water’ sitcom based on an Irish couple travelling to a small town in Quebec to manage a run down nine hole golf course controversially left in a family will.

Sideline’s founder and CCO Billy McGrath add:

‘I’ve got to know Warren now for a couple of years and we share a passion for great new ideas and especially scripted comedy. It just felt right to pursue a creative and commercial partnership together. Warren and his team are committed to working with us to deliver some really exciting projects for both our respective home audiences and beyond’.

Warren Campbell, President of Toronto based True Gravity Productions, has a strong affinity for Irish entertainment having previously managed a music company in Dublin in the 1990s:

‘True Gravity Productions has found the perfect partner in Sideline Productions, to create quality, entertaining programming for markets all over the world. Our plan is to create and deliver several new projects in 2018 and on the back of that success grow a strong team with even stronger projects for years to come. We are both committed to developing top class content for the world’.
