Following its initial launch earlier this year, Irish distribution outfit Break Out Pictures has announced a slate of new titles for release in 2020.

After rave reviews from London and Venice, where it made its world premiere, the much-hyped Rialto will hit UK and Irish screens in 2020. Masculinity, familial dysfunction and the very nature of love come under the microscope in this nuanced and powerfully affecting drama from director Peter Mackie Burns from a script penned by acclaimed writer Mark O’Halloran, centred upon a stunning lead performance by Tom Vaughan-Lawlor.

March will see the famine drama Arracht hitting Irish cinemas, directed by Tom O’Sullivan Arracht is set in rural Ireland in 1845, as famine progresses, a fisherman unable to protect his family is subsumed by darkness until a little girl saves him from despair. Last week the world premiere for Arracht was held at the Tallin International Film Festival to glowing reviews.

In summer 2020, Break Out Pictures will bring Paddy Slattery’s debut crime drama Broken Law to the big screen, which tells the story of two estranged brothers on opposite sides of the law. Starring Cardboard Gangsters cast Tristan Heanue, Graham Earley and John Connors.

Speaking on the upcoming slate, Robert Finn and Nell Roddy of Break Out Pictures commented; “We feel incredibly excited and privileged to be bringing such a wealth of Irish talent to audiences in Ireland and the UK over the coming months. We are committed to working on a diverse slate of films each year that we feel truly passionate about these upcoming films are a testament to that.”

Break Out Pictures is a new film and event cinema distribution company founded by Nell Roddy and Robert McCann Finn with a dedication to supporting emerging and established creatives. Previous releases include Hugh O’Conor’s directorial debut Metal Heart, Ian Fitzgibbon’s black comedy Dark Lies the Island, Tom Burke’s timely climate change documentary Losing Alaska and Seamus Murphy’s PJ Harvey – A Dog Called Money.
