Feature Film Submissions Open for 2019 Galway Film Fleadh
18 Dec 2018 : Nathan Griffin
The 31stiteration of the leading Irish film festival will now be accepting feature film submissions

The Film Fleadh is Ireland’s leading film festival, known internationally as the discovery place of New Irish Cinema, and host to the boldest new films from around the world each July. The Film Fleadh is also host to the Galway Film Fair, Ireland’s only film marketplace.

The Galway Film Fleadh awards feature films selected for competition in the following categories:

  • Best Irish Debut Film
  • Best International Debut Film
  • Best Irish Film
  • Best International Film
  • Best Irish Documentary
  • Best International Documentary
  • Best Cinematography in an Irish Film

Winners in recent years include The Dig, Katie, Gutland, Michael Inside, God’s Own Country, Sanctuary, A Date for Mad Mary, and, The Young Offenders, among others.

The Fleadh is an Oscar-Qualifying festival for Shorts (Animation & Drama), and it also offers a platform for excellence in filmmaking with retrospectives, public interviews, tributes and masterclasses from some of the world’s best filmmaking talent. In the past these have included Ruth Negga, Kirsten Smith, Saoirse Ronan, John C. Reilly, Mohsen Makhmalbaf, Pete Docter & Jonas Rivera, Fionnula Flanagan, Josh Olson, Zachary Quinto, Will Forte, Martin Sheen, Stephen Daldry, Michael Fassbender, Ronald Harwood, Anjelica Huston, Christopher Hampton, Peter O’Toole, Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, Robert Towne, Paul Schrader, Mira Nair, Abbas Kiarostami, Paolo Taviani, and many more.

The Galway Film Fair runs in conjunction with the Fleadh each year, Ireland and the UK’s only film market. This unique marketplace co-ordinates pre-scheduled meetings between filmmakers and invited Film Financiers, Distributors and Major Producers, allowing new talent to be discovered and long term partnerships to be made. Other selling points of the Fair include a privileged access to the world’s leading financiers, whilst showcasing new European and international cinema to leading film buyers, distributors and festival programmers.

The Galway Film Fleadh accepts Feature films, Documentary and Animation. Screening at an earlier film festival will not preclude selection, although priority will be given to Irish, European and World Premieres. In terms of awards, the audience selects those for Best International First Feature, Best International Feature and Best International Feature Documentary, Best Irish First Feature, Best Irish Feature, Best Irish Feature Documentary while awards for Human Rights Cinema and The Bingham Ray New Talent Award are awarded by a Jury of Industry Professionals.

Early bird deadline: Friday January 18th, 2019 at 5p.m. G.M.T.

Early Bird entry fees are at a discounted rate of €30.

After the Early Bird Deadline, the fee will increase to the Regular price of €40.

Regular deadline: Friday March 15th, 2019 at 5p.m. G.M.T.
