12 Jul 2018 : Nathan Griffin
Irish actor Barry Keoghan has been announced as the lead in US cable channel FX new series ‘Y: The Last Man’, which has been adapted from the hugely successful comic book series.

The 25 year old IFTA winning actor was confirmed for the new series yesterday, July 11th as FX officially unveiled the leading cast, which will see him star alongside Diane Lane.

This news comes only two months after the channel first formally announced its plans to make a pilot adaptation of the acclaimed graphic novel.

Keoghan (‘Dunkirk’, ‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer’) is set to star alongside Diane Lane (‘Under the Tuscan Sun’), Imogen Poots (‘Green Room’), Lashana Lynch (‘Captain Marvel’), Juliana Canfield (‘Succession’), and Marin Ireland (‘Sneaky Pete’).

Michael Green will direct the pilot, which is based on Brian K. Vaughan & Pia Guarra’s DC comic book series of the same name, The series traverses a post-apocalyptic world in which a cataclysmic event has decimated every male mammal save for one lone human. The new world order of women will explore gender, race, class and survival.

Keoghan took to twitter to share the announcement, where he said “Proud to bring this to the screen. Classic!”

Keoghan will assume the role Yorick Brown, the main character from the graphic novels on which the show is based. He is described as a young man quick to use humor to deflect from his problems, and who may be the lone male survivor of a worldwide plague.

Keoghan who first came to prominence in Irish crime drama series ‘Love/Hate’ has enjoyed a hugely successful year, which has seen him feature in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dunkirk’ & Yorgos Lanthimos’ ‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer’  alongside actors such as Cillian Murphy, Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, and Oscar winning actor Mark Rylance. Keoghan picked up his first IFTA for ‘Best actor in a supporting role – Film’ at the 2018 IFTA Film & Drama Awards.

Keoghan was also named in Variety’s ‘10 Actors to Watch” in 2017 following successful performance in both critically acclaimed films.
