The Arts Council Launch New Authored Works Initiative & Increase Funding for Reel Art 2018

The Arts Council has announced the launch of a new film initiatives that will see major funding and support given to three submitted projects that fall under the categories of ‘Authored Works’ & ‘Reel Art’, respectively. The Reel Art initiative has received a financial boost with funding for two selected projects now exceed €100,000 each.

The Deadlines for both categories is: Thursday, October 11th 2018.

Authored Works

As part of its new film policy, the Arts Council is introducing a new film initiative, Authored Works, to support the making of artist-led authored films for cinema exhibition.

The purpose of Authored Works is to provide film artists with the creative and editorial freedom to make a cultural film work from a strong artistic point of view. One film will be supported in 2018. A total fund of €200,000 will be made available to the successful applicant (to include a production budget of €185,000 and further exhibition support of €15,000). Only films that can be made within this budget will be considered. The film must be completed to premiere at the Irish Film Institute, our exhibition partner, at an agreed date in 2020.

Applications for Authored Works must be made directly to the Arts Council before 17:30 on Thursday, 11 October 2018. Guidelines and details of the application process will be published at the end of July 2018.

Reel Art

Also, as part of its new film policy, the Arts Council’s long-running arts documentary scheme, Reel Art, sees an increase in its budget.

The purpose of Reel Art is to provide film artists with the opportunity to make highly creative, imaginative and experimental documentaries on an artistic theme for cinema exhibition. Two films will be supported in 2018. A total fund of €102,500 will be made available to each of the successful applicants (to include a production budget of €90,000 and further exhibition support of €12,500). Only films that can be made within this budget will be considered. The films must be completed to premiere at the Dublin International Film Festival, our exhibition partner, in February 2020.

Applications for Reel Art 2018 must be made directly to the Arts Council before 17:30 on Thursday, 11 October 2018. Guidelines and details of the application process will be published at the end of July 2018.
