Women in Film and Television Ireland is set to host the event from 11:00-12:30 on Saturday, August 12th in Brooks Hotel, Dublin 2.

Members of WFT Ireland may attend free of charge, while tickets for non-members are €10. All attendees must RSVP to wiftirl @ gmail.com as soon as possible as places are limited.

Attendees will gain an insight into the craft of cinematography from two leading DOPs; Kate McCullough (The Farthest, The Queen of Ireland, His & Hers) and Frida Wendel (Striking Out, Ego).

Kate McCullough has developed a notable career in the Irish film industry since having won her first cinematography award in 2006 for the award-winning UK short ‘Hibernation’ at Aspen Shortsfest. She then made her entry onto the world stage with ‘His & Hers’ at Sundance 2010 where it garnered the World Cinematography Award in Documentary. She was also presented the Michael Dwyer Discovery Award at JDIFF 2010 and the Donal Gilligan Award for Best Cinematography at the Galway Film Fleadh 2011, for her work on the short ‘Mummy’s Little Helper’.

She has continued to work on a number of successful feature documentaries including ‘The Queen of Ireland’ and ‘It’s Not Yet Dark‘, winner of Best Irish Feature Documentary and Best Cinematography at last year’s Galway Film Fleadh. Most recently she has worked on Emer Reynold’s ‘The Farthest‘, which has had a very positive festival run and is now in cinemas.

Frida Wendel is a Swedish DOP who has a background in still photography and studied cinematography at Dramatiska Instituet between 2004 and 2008. She has since then made a number of popular commercials and promos for companies such as IKEA, Vero Moda and Burger King.

She puts a lot of effort on visual storytelling and she is known for her work on ‘EGO‘ (2014), Akta manniskor (2014), ‘Glada halsningar fran Missangertrask‘ (2015) and more recently in Ireland on Blinder Films’ ‘Striking Out‘, starring Amy Huberman and Neil Morrissey and directed by Lisa James Larsson for RTÉ. She is currently shooting the second season. She is a member of The Swedish Society of Cinematographers FSF.

This masterclass will be chaired by award-winning cinematographer Michael Lavelle (Cardboard Gangsters, Can’t Cope, Won’t Cope, Patrick’s Day).
