Reeling In The Years
RTE has confirmed that the first new episodes of Reeling in the Years for over a decade will be screened this spring.

The series, which delves into different years of history at home and abroad with a host of archive footage, has been a favourite among RTE viewers for years, and the new episodes will treat viewers to a new decade recap of the years between 2010 and 2019.

The most recent series of Reeling in the Years was broadcast in 2010, covering the events of year 2000 right up until 2009 and RTE has now confirmed that the next edition will make up part of its spring 2021 episodes. The show, which first aired in 1999, has episodes which showcase years as far back as 1962.

The new series will cover events from 2010 until 2019 including recaps on the EU-IMF bailout, the historic marriage referendum of 2015 and the successful campaign to repeal the eighth amendment in 2018.

On the sport side, Robbie Brady's goal against Italy at Euro 2016 and All-Ireland Hurling glory for the likes of Limerick and Galway will feature, as well as a highly successful decade in Irish rugby that saw the national team beat the All Blacks for the first time in history. Meanwhile, Dublin fans can look back on a decade that saw them win an incredible seven All-Ireland Football titles.

It was expected the new series would air in 2020, however in June the show’s producer John O’Regan told Ryan Turbridy the series was “going to be a while” as production had delayed due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.

No official air date has been given for the new season yet but it’s understood details will be announced in the coming weeks.
