Cellar Door and A Bump Along The Way.
IFTA Screen Discussions continues this week with an online discussion of Cellar Door today at 3pm with director/writer Viko Nikci and actors Karen Hassan, Leah McNamara and Mark O'Halloran. On Friday at 2pm the Academy will host the team behind A Bump Along the Way with actors Bronagh Gallagher, Mary Moulds, director Shelly Love, writer Tess McGowan and producer Louise Gallagher.

Continuing today at 3 pm, the IFTA Screen Discussions series focuses on Cellar Door, with Director/Writer Viko Nikci and actors Karen Hassan, Leah McNamara, and Mark O'Halloran. The event will take place via zoom, including an audience Q&A afterwards.

“Racing from young love to tortured loss and back again Cellar Door follows Aidie, a fighter inside and out, as she searches for her son while in the grip of the Church.

With a unique point of view on a familiar trauma, Cellar Door cuts deep into the character’s experience in an exploration of love regained and loss relived.”

Tomorrow, at 2pm the Academy will host a discussion with the team behind A Bump Along the Way featuring actors Bronagh Gallagher, Mary Moulds, director Shelly Love, writer Tess McGowan and producer Louise Gallagher.

A Bump Along the Way follows Pamela (Bronagh Gallagher)  a boozy 44-year-old single mother whose teenage daughter Allegra (Lola Petticrew) disapproves of her care-free lifestyle. Their fragile relationship is further tested when Pamela becomes pregnant after a one-night stand.

On Tuesday, June 9th, IFTA hosted a screen discussion with Ordinary Love actor Lesley Manville, directors Lisa Barros D’sa and Glenn Leyburn, writer Owen McCafferty and producer Brian J. Falconer. Yesterday saw the team behind The Last Right join the Academy in a discussion featuring actors Niamh Algar and Eleanor O’Brien, Director/Writer Aoife Crehan and Producer Paul Donovan from Deadpan Pictures.

Speaking about The Last Right at the event on Wednesday writer/director Aoife Crehan said she wanted the film to resonate with audiences like the films she grew up with, saying: “Growing up in the 90’s I wanted The Last Right to resonate with people the way 'Jerry Maguire', 'Little Miss Sunshine' and 'As Good as it Gets' did with me. I was so lucky with the cast too. It was such a nice atmosphere and everyone was really supportive.” The cast also enjoyed working on the film with Niamh Algar saying "I hadn’t filmed in Ireland in a while and it’s so lovely coming back to work here and work with all the Irish cast and crew".

Speaking on the Panel on Tuesday, actress Lesley Manville was similarly enthused about working in Ireland saying: “It was my first time shooting in Belfast. On set, there were so many wonderful people. The atmosphere was so light and delicate that when you had a difficult scene, everyone would pick you up." The passion for the project was evident across the board with co-director Lisa Barros D’sa saying: "There was so much passion and feeling in the script. From very early on we felt there was something about this – the authenticity touched us all" while producer Brian J. Falconer explained what the project meant to him, saying: "I was privileged to be there. The whole thing was a privilege. I’m privileged to be here with it now.”
