Rachel Weisz and Olivia Colman in 'The Favourite'
The Favourite, produced by Irish production company Element Pictures, has won 8 awards at the 32nd European Film Awards on Saturday December 7th in Berlin.

The film won in the following categories: European Film, European Comedy, European Director, European Actress, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Editor and Best Hair & Make-up Artist.

“The Favourite has been an incredible journey for all concerned and has exceeded our wildest dreams,” said Element Pictures producer Ed Guiney on winning the award. “It’s truly wonderful to get these awards from our contemporaries in Europe where this film was built and made.”

The Favourite has been a critical and box-office hit, with its global box-office at nearly $100 million. The film was nominated for 10 Oscars; with Olivia Colman winning the Oscar for Best Actress for her portrayal of Queen Anne. The film also won 7 BAFTA awards earlier this year.

The film, which stars Olivia Colman and Academy Award winners Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone, marks the third collaboration between Element Pictures and director Yorgos Lanthimos following award-winning films The Lobster and The Killing of a Sacred Deer.

The film was shot by Oscar-nominated Irish cinematographer Robbie Ryan, who picked up the EFA for Best Cinematography, and was partly post produced in Dublin. The Favourite was written by Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara and is produced by Ed Guiney and executive produced by Andrew Lowe for Element Pictures. Other producers include Ceci Dempsey, Lee Magiday and Yorgos Lanthimos. The film is an Element Pictures/Scarlet Films production for Fox Searchlight, Film4 and Waypoint.
