Netflix has revealed that international audiences will be able to see Moe Dunford and Olwen Fouéré in the latest instalment of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre next February 18th.

The global streaming giant struck a deal with Legendary Pictures for global rights to the latest instalment of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre (TCM) back in September.

Shot in Bulgaria last year, the cult horror film is directed by David Blue Garcia and stars Irish actors Moe Dunford (Vikings) and Olwen Fouéré (The Survivalist), as well as Eight Grade star Elsie Fisher, Sarah Yarkin (Happy Death Day 2U), and Jacob Latimore (The Maze Runner).

Speaking about the Netflix deal previously, actor Moe Dunford told IFTN: “I really enjoyed being in Bulgaria filming this new take on a classic, and I got to work with some great people – Elsie Fisher, Jacob Latimore, & our own brilliant Olwen Fouéré.”

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise is a hugely influential American horror film series that has spawned seven sequels. The original film was released in 1974, directed by Tobe Hooper and written by Hooper and Kim Henkel. Hooper produced the film for less than $140,000. While it initially drew a mixed reception from critics, it was highly profitable, grossing over $30 million at the domestic box office, equivalent with roughly over $150.8 million today selling over 16.5 million tickets in 1974. It has since gained a reputation as one of the best and most influential horror films of all time.

The latest edition of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre was initially helmed by Northern Irish directing duo Ryan and Andrew Tohill, who cast Dunford in the reboot following their collaboration on the Tohill’s critically acclaimed debut feature film The Dig in 2018.

“I watched the original Texas Chainsaw with my brother as a teenager, and it’s because of two other brothers, the Tohill’s, that I was given this opportunity in the first place,” Dunford explained. However, back in August 2020 IFTN reported that the Tohill brothers had exited Legendary’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel over “creative differences” with the film’s producers.

The decision was made only a week into production in Bulgaria, as the creative teams went their separate ways, but Dunford was still full of praise for the exciting directing duo: “They’re two extraordinary directors, and wonderful men; I can’t wait to see what they do in the future.”

The film was subsequently taken over by American Emmy-winning director David Blue Garcia (Tejano). “David came in under difficult circumstances and he did a superb job,” Dunford told IFTN.

Netflix has now confirmed an official release date for the film on February 18th, but Dunford previously warned that this won’t be a film for younger audiences: “All of us in the cast and crew, the people at Legendary Studios and Bad Hombre, can’t wait for audiences to see it in the comfort of their homes with their brothers, sisters, husbands, wives, but let the kids sit this one out…”
