  ‘Hunger’ Selected for Cannes Un Certain Regard
Steve McQueen’s directorial debut ‘Hunger’, co-written by award-winning writer Enda Walsh (Disco Pigs), is set to open the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes Film Festival, which takes place from 14th- 25th May 2008. more
  IFB Propose New Irish Film and TV Channel
The Irish Film Board has proposed a new Irish TV Channel dedicated to broadcasting the best of Irish, European and World Cinema, to the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources for inclusion in the new Broadcasting Bill, to be launched by Minister Eamon Ryan next month. more

Irish filmmaker Sasha King is set to film the final footage for her documentary ‘The Power of One’, an examination of the landmine casualties of Cambodia, in Dublin this May.more
Saoirse Ronan Accepts Her Two IFTA Awards
Actress Saoirse Ronan travelled to Dublin this week to accept her two Irish Film and Television Awards from IFTA director Deirdre Hopkins. The 14 year old star of ‘Atonement’ won the Best Supporting Actress and Irish Film Board Rising Star Award at the IFTAs in February but was unable to attend the event due to filming commitments.more
Digital Video Encoding Reaches DVD Centre
Dublin-based DVD services venue DVD Centre, which provides DVD transfers, DVD authoring and DVD Duplication, has installed two new Digital Rapids ‘Stream’ encoding systems to cater for increased demand for high quality internet video.more
