Northern Ireland Screen will provide a cash boost to a host of indigenous film projects from home-grown talent, through the NIS Fund. New Irish titles including ‘Red Mist’, ‘Chatakwa Falls’ and Cherry Bomb’ have been greenlit for the coming months. more

The Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, Séamus Brennan T.D. congratulated Mel Gibson and the 37 winners of Irish Film & Television Awards in Dublin, while 621,000 people tuned in to watch the IFTAs on RTÉ Television. more
 IFB to Receive €23 Million Payout
The Irish Film Board is set to receive €23 million government funding, as part of a plan by Minister for Arts, Sports and Tourism Seamus Brennan for Ireland’s arts and cultural infrastructure in 2008. more

IFTA winning actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers (The Tudors) is set to star opposite Julianne Moore (Children of Men) in supernatural thriller ‘Shelter’, produced by Nala Films. more
Colin Farrell to Take Over Ledger Role
Irish actor Colin Farrell (Intermission) is one of three stars who will replace the late actor Heath Ledger (Brokeback Mountain) in his final film ‘The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus’, directed Terry Gilliam (Brazil). more
‘Frankie’ Wins at Berlinale
Darren Thornton’s Irish Film Board funded short ‘Frankie’ has scooped the UIP Prix Award for Best Short Film at the Berlinale Film Festival, which took place from the 7th-17th February. more
Sarah Glennie Appointed Director of IFI
Sarah Glennie has been appointed the new Director of the Irish Film Institute. Glennie will take up the full-time role in Autumn 2008, working with the IFI on a consultative basis until then. more
Murphy Set for Thriller ‘Peacock’
Cork-born IFTA winning-actor Cillian Murphy (The Wind That Shakes the Barley) is set to star opposite Oscar-nominee Ellen Page (Juno) in psychological thriller 'Peacock', directed by Michael Lander. more
RTÉ Dance on the Box – Second Round Open
The Arts Council and RTÉ are seeking entries for the second round of RTÉ’s ‘Dance on the Box’, a series of four short dance films to be premiered on RTÉ during the Dublin Dance Fest. more

IFB Seeks Innovative ‘Short Shorts’
'Short Shorts' has been modified this year, and this time around each film must conform to a particular genre. The IFB hopes this will allow the shorts to be marketed more effectively as a package. more
