Irish screenwriter Mary Kate O’Flanagan has won the prestigious European Alliance for Television and Culture (EATC) Bursary Award. The idea has been optioned by Tyrone Productions, who will develop it with the screenwriter. more

Steve Brennan and Bernadette O’Neill’s book ‘Emeralds in Tinseltown’, tracing the story of the Irish in Hollywood, has just launched in Ireland. more
€2 Licence Fee Increase for RTÉ
The Irish government has approved a €2 licence fee increase for national broadcaster RTÉ, bringing the annual fee to €160, effective from January 1, 2008. more
Irish Shot ‘My Boy Jack’ Draws 5.7m
‘My Boy Jack’, the Irish filmed Remembrance Day drama, attracted 5.7m viewers for it’s ITV1 broadcast last weekend. Directed by Irish helmer Brian Kirk (Middletown, Cold Feet) and produced by Michael Casey (Freeze Frame), the two hour drama also aired on TV3 drawing an audience of 104,000 (a 7.5% share). more
BCI Awards €48K for Media Research
The Broadcasting Commission of Irleand (BCI) has awarded €48,000 funding to three projects in the area of media and broadcasting research. Third level institutes; Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), NUI Maynooth and University of Amsterdam; will receive the cash. more
Warrior Wraps Production On ‘Fifth Street’
Warrior Films have wrapped production on a new 35mm short film ‘Fifth Street’, written and directed by effects specialist David Roddham (Saving Private Ryan, The Wind That Shakes the Barley). more
Filmbase/RTÉ Short Film Award Winners Revealed
The winners of the Filmbase/RTÉ Short Film Award have been announced. Three projects were selected for funding from a total of over 130 projects received. more
