‘The Theory Of Everything’, the long-awaited Stephen Hawking biopic chronicling the life of the genius theoretical physicist and his battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is out in Irish cinemas in early 2015.

Catapulted to public notice (and a BAFTA) in 1982 for directing the RTÉ television film ‘The Ballroom of Romance’, Pat O’ Connor has since gone on to direct ten feature films, becoming one of Ireland’s best known and most successful exports in the process.

With Irish language drama ‘Corp is Anam’ returning on Thursday, November 27th, IFTN caught up with DOP Colm Hogan (‘Breith Agus Bás’, ‘Bothar Go Dti An White House’) to talk about the show, his career so far and what drew him into becoming a cinematographer.

With credits including such blockbuster films as ‘Gravity’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, Visual Effects artist Kyle McCulloch, who is based in London working for VFX giants Frame Store, will be speaking at the 2014 VFX and Animation Summit which takes place in the Science Gallery on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th November.

The Les Arcs Co-Production village, running December 13-16 within the Les Arcs European Film Festival (Dec 13-20), will present 25 projects in development and a further 10 works-in-progress. Several of the projects chosen for this year’s event are Irish films and films with Irish producers’ backing.

Plans for a new multi-million euro film production hub in County Limerick have been set in motion. An agreement has been arranged between Limerick City and County Council and Ardmore Studios, which in the past has provided facilities for several popular film and television productions such as ‘Braveheart’, ‘Excalibur’, ‘The Tudors’ and ‘Camelot’, and more recently for ‘Frank’ and ‘Penny Dreadful’.

Global Screen has sold adventure family feature ‘The Legend of Longwood ‘to Shout! Factory for the US and Canada. The deal was closed at the American Film Market (AFM) earlier this month and marks the second arrangement between the Munich-based world sales company and the US independent distributor following ‘The 7th Dwarf’.

‘The Snackbox Sessions’, a networking event for filmmakers by filmmakers about the business of filmmaking, will be hosting their winter session next week. The event shines a spotlight on an innovative group of independent filmmakers.

TTwo short films have made it one step closer to an Oscar nomination after picking up a Light in Motion (LIM) award at the Foyle Film Festival’s closing ceremony in Brunswick Moviebowl.
