Pat Kenny has officially left RTÉ and taken up employment with Newstalk, in a surprising move that ends his 41 year long career with the State Broadcaster.

Saoirse Ronan’s apocalyptic romantic drama ‘How I Live Now’ - in which she plays an American teenager forced to live with relatives in a UK military state - has been picked up for US theatrical distribution by Magnolia Pictures.

Irish horror ‘Portrait of a Zombie’, helmed by Finglas director Bing Bailey and filmed on location in Dublin, has secured a distribution deal with Studio Canal for a DVD release next month in Ireland and Europe.

The GAZE International LGBT Film Festival takes place in the Light House Cinema from 1 to 5 Aug.

IThree Irish documentaries have been shortlisted for this year’s Grierson Awards - Maurice Linnane’s ‘Amy Winehouse: The Day She Came to Dingle’; Alison Millar's ‘This World: The Shame of the Catholic Church’; and Dermot Lavery's ’14 Days’.

Bafta-winning sound recordist Chris Watson - whose work includes David Attenborough documentaries ‘Life’ and ‘Frozen Planet' - will present ‘El Tren Fantasma’, a performance of archive Mexican railway sound recordings at the Skibbereen Arts Festival on Sat 3rd Aug, followed by a sound workshop on 4th Aug.

Pulse College will offer new animation courses beginning in Sept, giving students the opportunity to develop their own visual concepts and learn animation skills.

The Galway Arts Festival closed yesterday, marking the conclusion of the fifth year of the GAFTV film training course in Web TV broadcasting and journalism.
