New Bill Targets Broadcast Competitions

IFTA/IFB Announce 2010 Rising Stars
The 2010 Irish Film Board/IFTA Rising Star award nominees have been announced. The category features six up-and-coming talents, the nominees are; writer/director of 'Eamon', Margaret Corkery; director of 'The Secret of Kells', Tomm Moore; writer/director of 'Savage', Brendan Muldowney and the film's lead actor, Darren Healy; 'Misfits' star Robert Sheehan and 'His & Hers' director Ken Wardrop. more
Dublin Film Fest Programme Unveiled
IFTA nominated actors Brendan Gleeson (Into the Storm) and Nora-Jane Noone (Savage) announced the line up for the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival at a launch party in Dublin's Tripod bar on Thursday 28th January. more
'Storyland' Competition Voting Opens
The six finalists of this year's Storyland competition have been revealed and, as of January 29th, viewers can watch the first episode from each of the six shortlisted programmes online and vote for the one that they would most like to see be re-commissioned for subsequent episodes. more

October Eleven Pictures Shoot 'A Christmas Carol'
October Eleven Pictures Ltd are keeping busy with a slate of six new projects for 2010 including a new feature film adaptation of Charles Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol' which will feature the acting talents of Vincent Fegan (Anton) as Ebenezer Scrooge alongside Alan Stanford (Educating Rita), Robert O'Mahoney (One Hundred Mornings), Mark O'Halloran (Adam and Paul) and Brendan O'Carroll (Mrs Brown). more
RTÉ Unveils Blooming Spring-time Line-Up
RTÉ this week announced that over thirty new home-produced series and documentaries will come to air this February, March and April to add to the eleven new and fourteen returning home-produced series that were announced for January. Amongst the Irish programmes to be broadcast are the 2010 Irish Film and Television Academy awards, Conor McPherson's, 'The Eclipse' and a new Craig Doyle- fronted light entertainment series. more

Filmbase and RTÉ have issued a reminder that the deadline for the first round of their Short Film Awards 2010 is 5pm on Friday the 5th of February. Applications for the award are now being accepted in hard copy only. more
Ireland-Brazil Match in Back of RTÉ Net
RTÉ Sport has announced that is has secured the live broadcast rights for the Republic of Ireland's friendly against five times world champions and current favourites to win the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Brazil. The match will be broadcast live from the Emirates Stadium in London on RTÉ Two television and streamed live on RTÉ.ie more
'Basket Case' Enjoys Success
Irish short film 'The Basket Case', written and directed by Owen O'Neill and produced by Katie Holly (One Hundred Mornings) of Blinder Films, has won the award for Best International Live Action Short at the Fantaspoa Film Festival in Brazil, a festival specifically geared towards the fantastic genre. more
'Princess & the Frog' Irish Premiere Draws Top Animators
The Irish Premiere of Disney's new animated motion picture, 'The Princess and the Frog' takes place on Wednesday, January 27 in Dublin. The screening will be attended by many of the big names behind the film such as award winning directors John Musker (Aladdin) and Ron Clements (The Little Mermaid). more
