Cheadle & Gleeson Join Forces For 'The Guard'
Principal photography for a new Irish comedy thriller, 'The Guard', has commenced in Spiddal, Co. Galway. The feature is written and directed by John Michael McDonagh (Ned Kelly) and stars Brendan Gleeson (Into the Storm) and Don Cheadle (Hotel Rwanda). more
Cork's Arthouse Kino Cinema to Close
Cork's Kino Cinema, the only indie cinema outside of Dublin, is to close on Sunday, November 29th as a result of a High Court action by creditors seeking repayment of a €50,000 debt and other outstanding professional debts. more
'The Guards' Shoot Underway in Galway
Magma Films' latest project, an adaptation of Ken Bruen's 'The Guards', has begun shooting in Co. Galway. The film is directed by Stuart Orme (Inspector Morse, Merlin) with Iain Glen (Song for a Raggy Boy, Tara Road) leading the cast. more
UTV Call for Non-News Programming Funding
Michael Wilson, Managing Director of UTV Television, gave evidence to the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee Inquiry into Television Broadcasting in Northern Ireland at Stormont this week to urge MPs to consider funding for non-news programmes in the province. more
'Boys are Back' To Open 54th Corona Cork Film Fest
The 54th Corona Cork Film Festival, Ireland's oldest film festival which will take place from Sunday November 1-8, launched its programme of events on Thursday, October 22nd. The festival will open with the screening of 'The Boys are Back' starring Clive Owen (Closer). more

Members of the Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) will be among the first in Ireland to see the Emmy-winning film 'Into the Storm' as an exclusive preview screening is scheduled for Dublin next week. The film's Irish director, Thaddeus O'Sullivan (December Bride), will attend as a special guest and participate in a post screening Q&A with the Academy. more
Fassbender, Duff & Ryan Nominated for BIFAs
Irish talent has been recognised and acknowledged once again, this time at the British Independent Film Awards (BIFAs). Irish DOP Robbie Ryan (Mischief Night) and actors Michael Fassbender (Hunger) and Anne Marie Duff (The Magdalene Sisters) have all received BIFA nominations. In addition, Daniel Day Lewis (There Will Be Blood) will be awarded the Richard Harris Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Film by an Actor. more
