RTÉ Union Accepts Pay Cuts
Members of RTÉ's trade union group (TUG) yesterday balloted to accept pay cuts by a margin of 56% for and 43% against. With 633 yes votes and 484 no votes, these pay cuts are to be introduced in an effort to avoid the expected €68m revenue shortfall. more

'Kells' Wins Audience Prize at Annecy
Cartoon Salon's 'The Secret of Kells', written and directed by Tomm Moore, has won the Audience Award for Best Feature Film at the 33rd Annecy Animation Festival in France. more

"No truth" in RTÉ Bankruptcy Claim says Goan
RTÉ Director General Mr. Cathal Goan, at an Oireachtas meeting last week told the gathered committee there was no financial crisis at the national broadcaster and that the €68m shortfall was currently being dealt with. more
Proposed Licence Fee Cut for BBC
The BBC could see the loss of some of its licence fee revenue in coming years, in an effort to fund public service programmes on non-BBC channels. Some of the £3.6 billion which it generates from its 87 year monopoly of the system may be used to fund regional news on ITV. more

UK Film Council Launches Cultural Report
The UK Film Council today launched their cultural report, Stories We Tell Ourselves: The Cultural Impact of UK Film 1946-2006. The report features a sub-chapter focusing on television and film in Northern Ireland examining how the Troubles have dominated the region's identity as far as cinematic representation is concerned, at the expense of other themes. more
Seven Irish Entries Screening at Palm Springs Shortfest
The full Irish line up for the Palm Springs International Shortfest was announced yesterday. With only 315 films being selected from more than 2,500 worldwide entries, Irish talent is represented with seven films chosen for screening, at this year's festival. more
Darklight Submissions Deadline Approaches
The Darklight Film Festival, Ireland's festival for filmmakers, animators and artists whose work explores the convergence of art, film and technology, is currently accepting submissions for this year's festival which takes place in Dublin from 8 -11 October 2009. more
Jury Unveiled for Stranger Than Fiction Fest
A jury compromising of filmmakers and documentary experts has been assembled for the upcoming Stranger Than Fiction festival (18 - 21 June) at Dublin's IFI. The judging panel includes IFTA winning director Lenny Abrahamson (Adam & Paul), veteran filmmaker Bob Quinn (Poitin) and Bulgarian director Boris Desapodov 'Corridor no. 8'. more
