Galway Film Fleadh Named in MovieMaker Magazine's '50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee'
26 Apr 2019 : News Desk
Galway Film Festival
MovieMaker Magazine has named the The Galway Film Fleadh as one of its ‘50 Film Festivals worth the Entry Fee.’

One of Ireland’s leading film event, the Fleadh comprises a six-day film festival, a four-day international film market and one-day film industry conference all taking place between 9th – 14th July in 2019. Galway was one of only six European festivals to make the list for filmmakers and creatives.

The Galway Film Fleadh has previously been spotlighted by Moviemaker Magazine as one of its ‘25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World.’

The magazine highlighted Galway’s script pitching competition in which screenwriters have the opportunity to pitch their script to a panel of industry decision makers, to win a cash prize, as a highlight of the event. Previous winners and participants of the script pitching competition have had their projects optioned, been selected for mentorships and invited on training programs. The 2019 Script Competition will open for entries in mid-May.

The social aspect of Galway was also highlighted in the magazine where “evenings at the Festival Club create opportunities to network and to connect with audience members” as well as the festival’s critical engagement through podcasts and video interviews with its filmmakers, and panel discussions and Q&As.

While Galway’s feature film submissions are closed for 2019, short film submissions will remain open until Friday, May 17th at 5 pm, and the entry fee is €20. The Film Fleadh accepts all types and genre of short film less than 40 minutes, as well as picture-locked rough cuts.

Filmmakers with projects in development, or a completed film/documentary, can also submit up to 2 projects to the festival’s marketplace, the Galway Film Fair, which has a regular deadline of Friday, May 31st at 5 p.m., with a fee per delegate of €250.
