9 Story Distribution International win Investor/Distributor Award at Cartoon Forum
20 Sep 2018 :
The Irish based distribution company was awarded one of the three Cartoon Tribute prizes at the forum in France last week.

The Cartoon Tributes are prizes that recognize the work of companies and people that have contributed to the development of the European animation industry over the past year. Elected through electronic voting by the 1000 participants that attended the 29th Cartoon Forum, the winners were announced on September 13th in Toulouse. Ireland, France and Finland shared the prizes in all three categories:

•    BROADCASTER OF THE YEAR: Finnish broadcasting company (YLE) | Finland

•    INVESTOR/DISTRIBUTOR OF THE YEAR: 9 Story Distribution International | Ireland

•    PRODUCER OF THE YEAR: Folimage | France

9 Story Media Group is one of the world’s leading kids and family content companies with facilities in Dublin, Toronto, New York and Manchester. The media group acquired the Irish animation studio, Brown Bag Films in 2015, which operates as the company’s creative hub running out of Dublin. The company’s international distribution arm, 9 Story Distribution International, represents over 3,500 half-hours of animated and live-action programming, provided to major international broadcasters and digital platforms.

For the 7th consecutive year, the French city of Toulouse hosted the 29th edition of Cartoon Forum, the co-production platform for European animation series that has fast-tracked European animation to the front row. Following 28 editions now, 758 projects have been funded for a total amount of 2.5 billion euros.

The 29th edition brought quality with a great diversity of genres, content, graphics and audience. 83 projects from 22 countries have been presented to participants from 38 countries which included a record of 1000 producers, investors, broadcasters, buyers, SVoD/VoD platforms such as Netflix, Amazon, Hopster TV, Playkids and Azoomee among others.

Notably, Cartoon Saloon’s Nuria Blanco also received a highlight mention from the Cartoon Forum for the children’s television project ‘Silly Sundays’. The project, pitched by Nuria Blanco, Paul Young and Maurice Joyce for the Kilkenny-based animation company, follows an Irish-Mediterranean family in a world where school and work are out for the week and a day of family fun lies ahead.

Irish animation talent has been a constant presence at Cartoon Forum over the last number of years and in 2017, Ireland was the second-highest-selected country after France. This followed on from the Forum placing a special spotlight on Irish animation at the 2016 event - the first time ever that such an honour was bestowed on one country.
