American streaming service Acorn TV & British linear broadcaster Channel 5 have acquired distribution rights for Virgin Media Television’s new crime series ‘Blood’.

Directed by Lisa Mulcahy (‘Red Rock’) and starring Adrian Dunbar (‘Line of Duty’) and Gráinne Keenan (‘Black Mirror’), ‘Blood’ is a six part crime series written by Sophie Petzal (‘The Last Kingdom’, ‘Riviera’). Shot in Ireland, the show is produced by Johnathan Fisher for Company Pictures in association with Element Pictures.

Due for release later this year on the newly rebranded station of Virgin Media Television (formerly TV3), Deadline has reported that a deal has been brokered by All3Media International, which will see Acorn TV and Channel 5 board the production.

The deal will see the global premiere take place in Ireland on Virgin Media Television, while sister company Virgin UK will have the UK SVOD window following Channel 5’s linear launch. The deal will also see Acorn TV assume SVOD rights in the US

Speaking about the announcement, MD of Acorn Media Enterprises, Catherine Mackin said:

“We’re thrilled to partner again with our friends at All3media international on another high-quality drama production. Delivering a new and exciting take on the crime genre, Blood boasts a stellar line-up of talent both on- and off-screen, ensuring it is perfectly in line with the first-rate dramas we’re bringing to Acorn TV’s subscribers every month.”

Channel 5’s Director of Programmes, Ben Frow said:

“This announcement underlines our ambition to diversify the schedule and deliver high quality drama to the channel. With a talented cast headed by Adrian Dunbar, thrilling storylines and the drama expertise of Company Pictures, Blood will appeal to UK audiences.”

All3Media International’s EVP, Stephen Driscoll  added:

“We’re very pleased to welcome Acorn onboard as a key production partner on this fantastic new drama. Our collaboration on Blood continues All3Media International and Acorn’s strong ongoing relationship, which has already resulted in a wealth of high-profile UK-produced drama airing on Acorn TV. In addition, partnering with Channel 5 is another fantastic step on the drama’s international journey. The Virgin Media UK window further endorses its appeal.”

‘Blood’ is due to air on Virgin Media Television this October, 2018.
