TG4 Announce Thailand As This Seasons Destination For Bilingual Travel Show 'WWOOFáil'
20 Mar 2018 : Nathan Griffin
TG4 has announced the return of the popular bilingual travel show, ‘WWOOFáil’ for its fifth season.

This season will see weather presenter Máiread Ní Chuaig and broadcaster Tomaí Ó Conghaile travel across the tropical landscape of Thailand and into the world of organic farming.

The show, which will air weekly on TG4 from Thursday, April 5th was funded by Northern Ireland Screen’s Irish Language Broadcast Fund (ILBF), and has previously been nominated for both Celtic Media & IFTA Television Awards.

The series is set to follow the adventurous road trip of Máiread and Tomaí, which begins in Nakhon Nayok, in central Thailand. TG4’s intrepid travellers then head south to Koh Lanta, a tropical island in the Andaman Sea where they build bamboo mud huts, and deal with the hazards of living in the middle of a rainforest.

The show will follow the pair as they explore the cities of Chang Rai & Chang Mai in the far north of the country, stay at a recovery centre that practices meditation & yoga to treat drug addiction, and visit Pai, a haven for backpackers situated high in the mountains near the Burmese border – where they spend a gruelling week working with elephants.

On their final stretch of the journey Tomaí and Máiread take an overnight train to work on an urban farm in Bangkok. They learn how to fight Maui Thai and get an insight into Thailand’s famous third gender culture back stage at a world famous ladyboy show.

Speaking ahead of the show, Director Feilimí O’Connor said he is excited to show that people, no matter what age, can travel and learn new skills on a tight budget:

“WWOOF (Worldwide Opportunities On organic Farms) is a ticket to an incredible life experience. You volunteer on organic farms, learn self-sustainable skills, and receive meals and accommodation in exchange for 4-5 hours of voluntary work per day. This season the presenters face their toughest challenges while experiencing Thailand’s exotic, colorful and extraordinary culture”

‘WWOOFáil Thailand’ will air on TG4 at 10pm – Thursday, April 5th 2018.
