Call for Scripts: Young Irish Film Makers Competition

The YIFM are running the competition which is open to budding writers of between sixteen and twenty-four years of age.

The deadline for entries is Wednesday June 14th.

Four winners will have their films made by the National Youth Film School this summer and will receive €100 each.

Additionally they will attend a scriptwriting workshop sessions with a professional screenwriter, who will help them craft their script into shape for the big screen.

Scripts must be set in provincial Ireland with three main characters and be no more than ten pages in length. The winning scripts will be produced for a family audience, so please avoid excessive violence, nudity or drug references.

Terms & Conditions

  • Initial applications will only be accepted from individuals.
  • Only one entry permitted per applicant.
  • Scripts must be supplied in the form requested. Proposals exceeding the prescribed word limits may result in proposals being excluded from consideration.
  • Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  • Copyright for the script will remain with the author.
  • Copyright for the final film will remain with Young Irish Film Makers.
  • Proposals submitted must be (a) wholly original to the applicant, or, (b) have a clear and unencumbered assignment of rights to the applicant if based on an existing work (eg. Play, short story, book).
  • Submissions should be sent in PDF format only.
  • Additional materials (eg budgets, production notes etc) should NOT be submitted at this time.
  • All applicants for the award must be aged between 16 – 24 years old of the deadline date. Visit our membership page for more information.
  • Project shortlisting is on a competitive basis. At the discretion of the selection panel, a maximum of 4 projects will be selected from the validly received proposals to progress for further development under the scheme. The decisions of the shortlisting panel are final. It will not be possible to provide feedback to unsuccessful projects.
  • Canvassing support from YIFM will immediately disqualify applications
  • Unsuccessful applicants will be eligible to re-submit to future YIFM short film contests.
  • Projects must be capable of being shot during the National Youth Film School, August 2017 under the resources available to the National Youth Film School.
  • All applicants must confirm their acceptance of these terms of conditions before their applications will be accepted and processed.
