Michael Fassbender Joins David Hasselhoff in David Sandberg's Action-Comedy 'Kung Fury'

Michael Fassbender has been confirmed for David Sandberg’s feature-length adaptation of his viral short film from 2015 - ‘Kung Fury’.

Sandberg is also set to star once again as well as direct and produce under his Laser Unicorns’ banner.

Fassbender is set to team up with David Hasselhoff who will reprise his role from the original short film, which was selected for Cannes Directors Fortnight and earned itself a large cult following after being partly funded on kickstarter. The new feature-length project, which will film during the summer, is set to be a sequel to the original short that garnered over 30 million views online.

The feature film, which will be set in 1985 Miami, will track the journey of police officer and kung fu master, Kung Fury, as he comes to terms with the tragic death of one of his Thundercop police force causing the city’s protectors to disband, only to be reformed when a mysterious evil villain by the name of Kung Fuhrer appears in search of the ultimate weapon.

‘It’ producers – David Katzenberg, Seth Grahame-Smith, and Aaron Schmidt are confirmed to produce the film under their KatzSmith Productions banner. Philip Westgren (B-Reel Films) and Conor McCaughan will also produce, along with Pelle Strandberg who will executive produce for Laser Unicorns.

International sales on the film are being handled by Bloom who will introduce it to buyers next week when its showcased at the Berlin Film Market. CAA and Endeavor Content have already secured North American sales for the project.

Fassbender’s recent credits include: ‘Alien: Covenant’; ‘The Snowman’, ‘The Light Between Oceans’; ‘Trespass Against Us’; and ‘Assassin’s Creed’. While the latest instalment of X-Men – ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix’ is currently in post-production and expected out later in 2018.
