The Irish Film Board Announce Q2 Funding Awards

Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB) has announcd its funding awards made by the IFB Board across film, documentary and animation, in the categories of development, production and distribution funding for the second quarter of 2016.
Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB) has announcd its funding awards made by the IFB Board across film, documentary and animation, in the categories of development, production and distribution funding for the second quarter of 2016.Projects in receipt of support represent a diverse range of content from a strong mix of established and emerging talent including a good representation from female writers, directors and producers.

Feature films in receipt of production funding support include Fastnet Films's Black 47 written by PJ Dillon and Pierce Ryan and to be directed by Lance Daly; Brian O'Malley's second feature The Lodgers penned by David Turpin and produced by Tailored Films; Sundance alumni Rebeccca Daly's Good Favour co-written with Glenn Montgomery and produced by SP Films, as well as the musical biopic Amy Winehouse from Subotica written and to be directed by Kirsten Sheridan and In Darkness from Parallel Films co-written and to be directed by Anthony Byrne.

Projects from up and coming writers and directors including feature film Michael Inside from Frank Berry (I used to Live here) and Highway from Alexandra McGuinness (Lotus Eaters).

Reflecting the commitment of the IFB to theatrical documentary filmmaking, a large number of projects were supported this quarter including All the Numbers from Ross Whitaker; Jihad Jane: Dangerously Seeking Marriage by Ciaran Cassidy, Haunted by Maurice Sweeney and A Spell in Power by Caroline Campbell.

There has been strong competition for development funding this year to date and the IFB have awarded a total of €620.3K this quarter, again supporting a diverse range of content. Feature film projects in receipt of IFB development support include The Black Eyed Blonde to be directed by John Crowley (Brooklyn), Bolt written by Amy Huberman and John Butler (The Stag); A Girl from Mogadishu to be written and directed by Mary McGuckian (The Price of Desire), The Voyage Of The Triton Crusader written by Will Collins (Song of the Sea), The Undertaking written and to be directed by Gerard Barrett (Glassland) and Epos Films's adaptation Stolen written by Lisa Mulcahy and Eoin O'Connor.

The IFB also supported a large number of animation projects through development and production this quarter with funding awards going to MyaGo to be produced by Piranha Bar and Monster Entertainment's I'm A Fish. Development awards include a TV series for Two by Two the Ark has Gone, based on the feature film which was a major box office success last year to be produced by Moetion Films, as well as new projects including Alva & The Trolls, Peek Zoo, Creepers and The Mooneys who will present at Cartoon Forum in September.

New Irish films soon to be released in cinemas with distribution support from the IFB include Galway Film Fleadh winner The Young Offenders directed by Peter Foot, Irish documentaries Bobby Sands: 66 Days directed by Brendan Byrne and Mom and Me directed by Ken Wardrop.

These decisions reflect applications processed and approved in the second quarter and do not reflect applications received during this period.
